Review: Alberto VO5 Moisture Milks Moisturizing Conditioner (Passion Fruit Smoothie)

$1 or less at most retailers!!

MY REVIEW:

I had heard so much about VO5 Moisture Milks as a good co-washing conditioner.  So I thought I’d give it a try.  Well, I was very pleased when I found it at Rite Aid for only 79¢ for a 15 oz. bottle!!!  It was on sale marked down from $1.29 (which is still a steal)!  In fact, I’ve seen many people find it for less than a dollar most of the time.

This moisturizing conditioner has a pleasant enough scent (I got the passion fruit smoothie, although many people love the strawberries & cream scent).  Its consistency is somewhat thin and a little does not necessarily go a long way way which may explain the low cost.  It also provides a decent amount of slip while de-tangling.

In addition to moisture, ethnic hair needs the occasional boost of protein (hair is about 75-80% protein) for balance.  If your hair is relaxed, protein is VERY important to you as the chemicals have essentially broken down the protein structure of the hair and weakened it.  Fortunately, VO5 includes soy milk protein and biotin which is beneficial for strengthening your hair strands.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Overall, I like VO5 Moisture Milks as a co-wash conditioner, and my natural (not relaxed) hair was quite soft after using it.  On the other hand, I personally prefer a thicker conditioner, and I’m not sure I’d use it as a regular conditioner after a shampoo wash.  Also, I have to moderate how often I use this particular conditioner due to the fact it contains protein.   I’ve found in the past that too much protein (without a balance with moisture) hardens my hair and causes it to break.

Considering all of this, I would purchase VO5 Moisture Milks conditioner again because the price is unbeatable, and it serves its function well.  Will it be my staple conditioner, however?  Probably not.
